Product Information

Lachenalia 'Romaud' is from a cross made in 1976. First imported into Australia in 2016 and released that year. It is strongly perfumed.

'Romaud' is one of the Lachenalia cultivars with a hyacinth-type inflorescence. The full inflorescence, scent, colour and horizontal flowers were inherited from L. orchioides subsp. glaucina.

'Romaud' is a relatively vigorous grower. The bulbs give rise to two horizontal, dark green leaves. Although the leaves are long and wide (200mm x 50mm) in contrast to the inflorescence, the inflorescence is big enough (300mm to 500mm) to maintain visual balance. The horizontal flowers cover the greater part of the inflorescence. They are spaced closely together, are relatively short (20mm x 10mm) and have a wide mouth that opens into trumpet shape. An excellent characteristic is the unusual lemon-yellow flowers that make a beautiful mass display and are slightly fragrant. 'Romaud' tenbds to grow luxuriantly under low light conditions. This causes the plants to become slightly unwieldy for a potplant and the plant lodges. Since 'Romaud' is one of the earliest cultivars to flower and also because of its exceptional colour and pleasant scent, it has potential as a pot and bedding plant.

A wonderfull tall pure yellow infloresence, with a sweet scent, on a strong upright stem.

An excellent cut flower and exceptional potted colour.

An ideal cultivar for a massed display in the garden.
